Is crab snaring legal where I live?
Crab snaring is legal in California, Oregon and Washington. The limit on loops on your snare is 6 in California and there is no limit on loops in Oregon and Washington.
Crab snaring is ILLEGAL in British Columbia.
Always check your local regulations before ordering.
Do you accept returns?
I do accept returns on orders. The product must be unused. The buyer pays shipping back and there is a 25% restocking fee
How long will it take to receive my snares?
Depending on inventory on hand the snares will ship within 5 business days.
What shipping service do you use?
USPS ground is the standard shipping we use,
How do the snares work?
The bait cage in the snare lures the crabs to the snare and when you gently set the hook and start reeling, the loops cinch down on the legs, claws or body and trap the crab.
What materials are used?
The cage is made out of welded stainless steel mesh and the loops and leader are made from a resilient material I found works well under the conditions the snares see. I use lead weights to keep the snare on the bottom.
How do I care for my snares?
Simply rinse in fresh water after use. Every few uses you can put the whole snare into very hot water (not boiling) and this will help the loops open up all the way. After the tension of pulling crabs to shore, the loops can start to not fully open back up.
What tackle do I need?
I am a big fan of the Okuma Crab Snare Special rod as well as the Offshore Angler Sea Lion SLS80 8000 size reel. I use 40lb monofiliment line as a base and top it off with 300 yards of Beyond Braid 60lb braided line.
I use an Offshore angler crab gauge.
Here are links for the rod, reel and line I use. Also included is a gauge to measure your crab with.
I recently purchased an Offshore Angler Breakwater 12 foot rod and 7000 size reel. Links included as well.

Use & Care Instructions
Recommended Setup & Use
1. I recommend a 10-12 foot HEAVY surf style rod with a lure rating of 6-12oz+ paired with a sturdy 6000 to 8000 sized spinning reel. Check my website for recommendations in the FAQ section.
2. I personally spool my reels halfway with 40lb mono and fill the rest up with 60-80lb brightly colored braid from Beyond Braid. It is a good practice to strip off the last 8 to 12 feet of line every trip to ensure there are no knicks or cuts in the line. This ensures you have good line and reduces the chances of losing your snares.
3. Use either a size 5 or bigger duo-lock clip or an equally sized snap-swivel to the main line using a Palomar knot. See my website for an animation on how to tie in the FAQ section.
CARE
1. When storing snare, wrap the loops up with the leader to keep from tangling with other snares and to keep the loops open.
2. Rinse with fresh water after every use to remove saltwater to prevent corrosion.
3. Every few uses dip in boiling water to open up loops and keep them in optimum condition.
4. Store with rubber band latch open without tension on it to let it last longer.
